The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will host the Transportation Technology Showcase tomorrow at the Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta.
The event is sponsored by the Georgia Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Society of Georgia, and more than 20 companies will participate.
Demonstrations at the show will highlight solutions that can improve roadway safety and achieve better mobility. Demonstrations will cover safety initiatives for the future; 911 support and weather safety; public services such as roadside assistance, connected vehicles; traffic management center operations; and data science collection.
These demonstrations will include a vehicle equipped with pedestrian detection technology that will allow attendees to view safety alerts as people use a simulated crosswalk, as well as a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus that will be used to show riders how Transit Signal Priority technology works.
Attendees will also be able to test a technology intended to help GDOT employees identify downed trees and power lines after inclement weather, or to locate motorists in distress.
Attendees can watch connected-vehicle technology by observing data as the signal cycles at the depot. Attendees can also ride a connected vehicle and see how data is received in the vehicle.
State legislators, industry executives, and invited guests will preview the hands-on demonstrations.
