Ramps, flyovers, and street connections will be built along I-15 and the 215 Beltway as part of a $99 million contract awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel this week by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).

The work will consume North Las Vegas, with the end goal of creating an interchange to improve traffic flow, safety, and mobility in the area. Along the way, two sprawling, cast-in-place concrete dual-lane flyovers will be built, in addition to an east-to-north connection, the size of five football fields laid end-to-end, as well as a massive northbound I-15 to westbound 215 flyover. Likewise, new on- and off-ramps will be added along southbound I-15, and more than a half-mile of Beltway expanded into six travel lanes. Road extensions, replacements, lighting, signage, landscaping, and drainage pipes all factor in as well.

The project is not the first time NDOT has worked with Fisher Sand & Gravel, though. The company was also responsible for construction of the first section of I-11 in 2018. On this latest project, the designer is Atkins, with Lage Design tapped as landscape architect.

The project will cover nearly two miles. Highway restrictions should be expected, and unscheduled construction changes are possible throughout the project, including closures and restrictions. NDOT is encouraging drivers to take alternate detour routes where possible and to watch for work zones.

Currently, the interchange averages 34,000 vehicles each day, but the upgrades are being undertaken alongside the prediction that traffic could grow by 72 percent over the next 20 years. Ground is expected to be broken in the first quarter, with work completion expected in late 2022.
