Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a supplemental budget Dec. 13 that includes an additional $20 million for local road construction and transportation improvement projects.

The funding is for fiscal year 2020 and brings the total funding to $220 million.

The funds were awarded through the Chapter 90 transportation fund that uses a predetermined formula to determine each municipality’s portion. The formula includes multiple factors, including road miles, population, and employment.

“The Commonwealth is focused on improving the core transportation infrastructure in the state by advocating for Chapter 90 funding and with initiatives such as the Complete Streets Funding Program,” Transportation Secretary and CEO Stephanie Pollack said. “The Chapter 90 funding program is one of several examples of the Administration working with municipal leaders to help meet capital needs that the communities identify as critical. The Administration realizes local leaders often know best what capital improvements are needed at the local level.”

The city of Boston received the largest award. A total of $16.5 million was awarded to the city for the fiscal year, including $1.5 million in additional funding.

The city of Worcester received the second-largest award, totaling $4.5 million, including $408,626 in additional funding.

The city of Springfield received $4.03 million, including $366,018 in additional funding.
