The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) recently awarded a $93.1 million contract to Wright Brothers Construction Co. for the State Route-317/Apison Pike project in Collegedale.
The project will widen the corridor for 3.4 miles from State Route 321/Ooltewah-Ringgold Road to east of Layton Lane near the Collegedale Municipal Airport. It will include five lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks, greenway connections, and curbs and gutters.
Improvements include a bridge that will span the railroad tracks, construction of several other bridges and retaining walls, signals, drainage, grading, and paving.
TDOT and Wright Brothers Construction will hold a pre-construction conference before work begins.
Construction is scheduled to begin during the first quarter of this year, and the project is expected to be completed on or before June 30, 2025.
TDOT stopped lane closures Dec. 20 for interstates and state highways projects to help alleviate holiday-related congestion. The move was intended to improve traffic flow.
The roads are now less busy than over the holidays, so TDOT has resumed roadwork to complete construction projects across the state.
Projects include widening on Lenior City Highway 321 and Highway 11, work along Topside and Woodson on Alcoa Highway, and work on the Broadway Viaduct.
