AAA recently issued its winter outlook for gasoline prices by region.
In the Great Lakes and Central states, drivers can expect to see prices 10 cents less expensive per gallon than last winter but will experience potentially large price fluctuations from week-to-week.
The South and Southeast states will see prices at least 15 cents less expensive than last winter.
Prices in the Rockies and West Coast states will decrease by as much as a quarter.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states also will see decreases, but much less than the rest of the country. Prices are forecasted to be no more than 10 cents less than last year.
Nationwide, December’s gasoline prices are among the least expensive of the year and are expected to average between $2.40 and $2.45.
“Depending on where you live in the country, you will see gas prices drop anywhere between a nickel and a quarter this month,” Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson, said. “While that will offer savings to motorists, it is not as much as they saw last December. Gas prices are more expensive year-over-year in part due to higher crude prices this winter over last.”
The lowest national gas price average of December 2018 was recorded on the 31st at $2.26 a gallon.
