Hall Contracting and American Engineers Inc. were chosen last week by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to lead a design-build team in the execution of the four-year, $180 million I-Move Kentucky project.
The interstate project will cover design and construction for I-265, I-71, and I-64 through the state’s Jefferson and Oldham counties. In all, the efforts represent the largest scale construction project in Kentucky since 2016.
“I-Move Kentucky is a bold transportation initiative that will provide motorists and businesses significant benefits –reduced congestion, increased safety, and greater mobility,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas said. “This is yet another example of rapid economic development supported by Gov. Matt Bevin in this region and around the Commonwealth. Combining these projects into one will significantly accelerate construction and reduce the amount of time travelers will be impacted by our work.”
Construction is slated to begin in spring 2020. Throughout the project, I-Move will add lane capacity and interchange upgrades. I-265 will be widened and a 12-foot lane of traffic added in each direction, giving it six lanes total. A lane will also be added on southbound I-71 to aid ramp movements to and from I-265. I-71 will also be widened between I-265 and KY 329, giving it six lanes as well. Meanwhile, the I-64/I-265 interchange will be reconstructed to improve safety and help traffic flow.
Specific dates for the project’s progress have yet to be established, but the partners currently hope to conclude it sometime in late 2023.
