The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently completed the replacement of two deteriorated bridges carrying U.S. 202 over Amtrak rail lines at the southern end of the U.S. 30 Interchange.

The deteriorated pavement on ramps to and from the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass in East and West Whiteland townships were also replaced.

“PennDOT continues to invest heavily to improve travel and safety along the U.S. 202 corridor in Chester County,” Kenneth M. McClain, PennDOT district executive, said. “Our reconstruction and widening of this highway over the last decade, plus planned future enhancements, will greatly benefit the lives of all commuters who use this key artery through southeast Pennsylvania.”

The bridges mark the completion of the U.S. 202-300 project. Work included the widening of 6.5 miles from four lanes to six lanes from just south of the Route 252 Interchange to the U.S. 30 Interchange.

Work is in the preliminary design stage for the U.S. 202 at Route 926 intersection. The project is expected to include creating a double left-turn configuration along the eastbound approach onto northbound U.S. 202, an additional eastbound left-turn lane on Route 926, installation of a southbound right-turn deceleration lane on U.S. 202, and pedestrian and bicycle intersection improvements.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2021.
