The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) recently received $26.6 million in Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) year-end funds.
The money will be used to underwrite the $100 million Interstate 15/215 Northern Beltway interchange project.
FHWA reassigns transportation funding authority from loan programs and transportation grants that were underutilized in the fiscal year and from states that did not utilize the full funding originally authorized to them. Funds are redistributed to states with projects that meet all federal funding requirements and are ready to begin.
NDOT needed to prove current projects fit all requirements for receiving additional federal funding redistribution and that it will fully utilize funds in fiscal year 2019.
“In the last 16 years, we have been able to secure more than $245 million in additional obligation authority and funds for use on vital Nevada transportation projects,” Kristina Swallow, NDOT director, said. “This is a demonstration of putting more federal dollars to work here in Nevada, and I thank our financial management staff for their work in ensuring that the state continually utilizes all funding available for important transportation projects.”
NDOT will bid out the Beltway project next month. The project will complete an interchange configuration where the northern I-15 meets the 215 Beltway.
