The Colorado Department of Transportation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week in honor of the substantial completion of the $11.2 million US 285 Resurfacing Project.
The project took seven months under the direction of Contractor APC Southern. Along the way, a number of safety improvements were undertaken, including the widening of three miles of highway and shoulders, extending drainage culverts, adding six-inch inlay epoxy striping for greater visibility, updating guardrails to meet new standards and, above all, resurfacing of a 20-mile stretch north and south of Fairplay, Colo.
“We appreciate the cooperation from the traveling public as we worked to improve safety in this area,” CDOT Region 2 Transportation Director Karen Rowe said. “The work that was done over the past seven months is a great example of how we are improving road conditions and make traveling our highway system safe and enjoyable.”
The striping addition was made possible due to leftover funds in the budget. Rowe noted that it will hold up longer to weather conditions while also providing better visibility.
