Appropriation bill would provide $86.6B for US transportation infrastructure

The Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee recently advanced its fiscal year 2020 appropriations bill that includes $86.6 billion for the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Funding includes $61.3 billion in obligation limitations and $25.3 billion in discretionary appropriations. Funding is $167 million higher than last fiscal year.

The bill provides $46.3 billion from the Highway Trust Fund for the Federal-aid Highways Program, $2.7 billion for highway programs, $100 million for the Appalachian Development Highway System and $100 million for the Nationally Significant Federal Lands and Tribal Projects grant program.

The Federal Aviation Administration would receive $17.7 billion, and the Contract Towers and the Essential Air Service programs would be fully funded. An additional $31.8 million is allocated for aviation safety.

The Federal Transit Administration would receive $13 billion.

The Federal Railroad Administration would receive $2.8 billion including $2 billion for the Northeast Corridor and National Network.

A total of $1 billion is provided for Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development grants.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration would receive $972 million, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration $679 million, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration $278 million.

The Maritime Administration would receive $904 million.
