The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) recently awarded the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission with the 2019 President’s Award for Toll Excellence, the association’s top honor, at its 87th Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The commission was selected for its “Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review” suite of web-based applications. The apps allow duty officers to respond to situations as they happen on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to more effectively monitor drivers’ travel times and maintain traffic flow.
“The PA (Pennsylvania) Turnpike certainly appreciates this acknowledgment and honor of receiving the President’s Award from IBTTA and our industry partners,” Mark Compton, turnpike CEO, said. “Our key guiding principles at the PA Turnpike include safety, innovation, and customer service, and this suite of apps is remarkable because it envelopes them all. I am extremely pleased how our team collaborated on these solutions — which will help improve situational awareness and enhance safety for our contracted responders, maintenance employees, and customers.”
The commission operates and maintains 552 miles of toll roads in Pennsylvania and was one of six tolling agencies recognized earlier this year with a Toll Excellence Award. IBTTA selected the President’s Award winner from this group.
