The Infrastructure Working Group (IWG), a coalition of more than 150 trade and labor organizations, is urging Congress to develop and pass bipartisan infrastructure legislation before Sept. 30, 2020.
IWG would like the proposed bill to address infrastructure funding issues.
Funding priorities include facilitating opportunities for private investment, accelerating the federal- permitting process while maintaining environmental protections, increasing direct federal investments in a broad range of infrastructure sectors, fixing reoccurring shortages in federal infrastructure accounts such as the Highway Trust Fund, complementing and strengthening existing resources that drive infrastructure investments at the federal, state and local levels, and encouraging active participation among all levels of government and between public and private sectors without shifting federal responsibilities.
“The time is now to pass a bipartisan, comprehensive package that transforms U.S. infrastructure systems beyond the status quo and maintains U.S. competitiveness in a 21st-century economy,” IWG said in a letter to congressional leaders in February. “We urge you to work across the aisle to develop a proposal that ensures U.S. infrastructure is second to none.”
IWG is led by the Associated General Contractors and the National Association of Manufacturers.
The American Concrete Pavement Association is the most recent group to join IWG.
