The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) board of directors recently voted to approve a plan for the proposed Irvington Station.
The station would be in Fremont, Calif., near the intersection of Osgood Road and Washington Boulevard between Fremont and Warm Springs Stations.
The updated and improved version of the plan incorporated public feedback and includes an aerial walkway connecting the concourse to the sidewalk on the west side of Osgood Road, more efficient passenger pick-up and drop-off areas, improved pedestrian and bike access and safety, stabilization and protection of the historic Gallegos Winery ruins, and the construction of the East Bay Greenway bicycle trail.
The two-story, side platform station is part of the Warm Springs extension project.
“This future station will be relatively small in scale but will provide a neighborhood feel and will complement the area and those that live nearby,” Paul Medved, BART Warm Springs Capital Program manager, said. “This new station concept is the product of a highly collaborative effort between the city of Fremont and BART and reflects the needs of the community while also encouraging new transit trips and fewer cars on the roads.”
Fremont will be responsible for securing funding, while BART will be responsible for operation and maintenance.
