The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) recently awarded the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission with the 2019 Toll Excellence Award for Technology.
The commission was honored for its Catch it Early, Act, Analyze and Review web-based application.
The app allows duty officers to respond proactively to situations across the Pennsylvania Turnpike to more effectively monitor driver’s travel times and maintain traffic flow.
“The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commissions’ embrace of new technologies means faster response times, increased traffic flow and safer trips for drivers utilizing the 552 miles of roadway throughout the Pennsylvania Turnpike,” Patrick Jones, IBTTA executive director and CEO said. “The Pennsylvania Turnpike has taken on a tough transportation challenge and worked with partners to find a practical solution. We’re incredibly proud of the work they’ve done to represent our industry. On behalf of the transportation community, we congratulate the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission on this well-deserved recognition.”
Toll Excellence Awards are presented annually to projects that bring innovation and solutions to the tolling industry. Awards are presented in six categories and intended to encourage the industry to share new ideas and practices.
The award will be formally presented to the turnpike commission during IBTTA’s 87th Annual Meeting and Exhibition held Sept. 15-17 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
