The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is reaching out to the public for insight into a transportation plan that will span the next 25 years, covering policies and priorities for the agency.

“There is a lot of interest in infrastructure right now nationwide, and it’s critical for ODOT to get input from every community in the state to help update Oklahoma’s transportation plan for the future,” ODOT Deputy Director Dawn Sullivan said.

A website has been set up specifically for interested residents to learn more of the plan’s development, related information, and even past plans. Feedback can then be gathered through the MetroQuest tool, which utilizes realistic transportation situations. It will be available until Aug. 12.

Gathered data will be used to judge the existing system, to analyze needs and trends going forward, and to evaluate how those needs can be fulfilled while developing related strategies and policies over the long haul. The plan itself is federally required and will focus on various modes of travel and commercial freight movement, though it lacks focus on specifics.

ODOT hopes to have a plan adopted in summer 2020, after which it will be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration.
