ARTBA awards environmental protection projects

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) recently presented the Globe Awards as part of the organization’s Federal Issues Program.

The award recognizes two categories: transportation construction product manufacturers and material suppliers that utilize exemplary environmental processes to protect and enhance the natural environment and private-sector firms and public-sector transportation agencies that do an outstanding job in protecting and/or improving the natural environment in the planning, design, and construction of U.S. transportation infrastructure projects.

An independent panel of industry professionals selected winners.

In the $10 Million – $100 Million projects category, there was a first-place tie.

American Structurepoint and Lawson-Fisher Associates were recognized for pedestrian and bicycle-friendly streets in South Bend, Ind. Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co., WSP USA and Utah Department of Transportation Region Two were recognized for building wildlife crossings in the I-80 corridor in Utah.

Second place was the Beechwood Boulevard (Greenfield) Bridge replacement project in western Pennsylvania.

In the $100 Million or greater projects category, HDR and PCL Civil Constructors were recognized for a bridge replacement in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Second place was awarded to HNTB Corporation and the Washington Department of Transportation for the State Route 99 tunnel under downtown Seattle.
