EVgo, the largest public electric vehicle (EV) fast charging network in the United States, will now rely entirely on renewable power, according to the company.

EVgo is going green through the purchase of certified wind and solar energy from a variety of suppliers and renewable energy certificate partners. Last year, the company powered more than 75 million electric miles, with light-duty EV fleets and rideshares making up one-third of that figure, meaning the shift could have a sizeable impact on emissions. That shift also marks a significant milestone for the company, making it the first EV charging network in the United States to draw entirely from renewable sources.

“At EVgo we understand that our customers value all the ways EVs deliver a delightful driving experience, from better acceleration to eliminating tailpipe emissions,” Julie Blunden, executive vice president for Business Development at EVgo, said. “EVgo is the national leader in customer satisfaction, and we plan to extend that lead with 100 percent renewable energy powering every mile charged on our convenient and reliable fast charging network.”

By the end of 2020, EVgo also intends to double its network capacity.
