Austin, Texas, City Council voted last week to adopted its Austin Strategic Mobility Plan, city-wide transportation plan.
The policy document contains updated policies and interactive maps and will be used to guide how lawmakers make decisions regarding the city’s future.
Policies include those concerning demand, health and environment, implementing the plan, infrastructure, operating the transportation network, supporting the community and transportation safety.
The maps replace the 2025 Austin Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan roadway table and map and show improvements to the city’s streets for the next 20 years.
Maps include the bicycle system, the high-injury network, public transportation, roadway capacity projects, sidewalk prioritization, and urban trails.
“The Austin Strategic Mobility Plan is truly a major milestone for Austin’s mobility portfolio,” Robert Spillar, Austin Transportation director, said. “The plan responds to Council’s strategic direction to solve mobility issues by addressing the multimodal needs of our community, offering our residents and visitors new, affordable opportunities to travel through and around our city.”
The mobility plan replaces the 1995 regional Austin Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan and amends the transportation section of the Imagine Austin plan.
Feedback on the plan was heard at public hearings and board and commission meetings. Public feedback was requested starting in late 2016.
