The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) of Virginia has launched a study of interstate 95, with the intent of noting priorities and potential revenue sources that could be realized under a new corridor improvement plan.
The CTB’s efforts come under a directive from the Legislature, which directed them to identify targeted improvements and incident management strategies for the corridor and find ways to finance these operations. Such efforts will begin with public meetings, followed by a draft plan report expected later this fall. Findings will likely then be reported to the General Assembly in December.
“I-95 is one of the most complex transportation corridors in our Commonwealth,” Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine said. “This study creates an opportunity to examine the use and needs of I-95 with the goals of relieving congestion, increasing safety, and advancing Virginia’s economic competitiveness.”
The 17-member CTB will be assisted in this endeavor by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Virginia State Police.
