The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recently awarded $1.36 billion in Capital Investment Grants (CIG) Program funds to 16 new and existing transit projects.
The CIG program funds major transit infrastructure projects. To be considered, projects must undergo a multi-year, multi-step process.
New CIG projects receive funding once the project sponsors finish the process and the FTA signs construction grant agreements.
Approximately $424.8 million was appropriated in fiscal year 2018 CIG funding to two projects with existing construction grant agreements and five projects nearing readiness to be considered for a grant agreement.
Another $936 million was allocated in fiscal year 2019 CIG funds to nine projects with existing construction grant agreements.
Under the Trump administration, the FTA has provided approximately $5.06 billion in funding commitments to 22 new CIG projects.
“FTA continues to evaluate and advance eligible projects in the CIG program consistent with federal law,” FTA Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams said. “We are pleased to allocate funding to five new CIG projects and 11 projects with existing grant agreements across the country.”
The largest new CIG project is the 15-mile Division Transit BRT Project in Portland, Ore. The project will receive $87.4 million upon final FTA approval of a construction grant agreement.
