Philadelphia International Airport saw 31.7 million passengers in 2018, a 7.1 percent increase from 2017.
According to reports, last year also had the highest passenger volume since 2008 when the airport recorded 31.8 million passengers and the largest increase 2015.
The record was set in 2007 with 32.2 million passengers.
The increase is attributed to air service. In 2018, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Spirit Airlines and Southwest Airlines launched nonstop flights and Aer Lingus began service.
The total of international passengers increased 6 percent, reaching 4.2 million. The increase is attributed to new year-round service to Zurich and seasonal service to Budapest and Prague.
“Our airport team continues to work tirelessly with our airline, tourism and business partners to attract new air service whether it’s more flights to more cities by our established carriers or bringing in a new airline,” Airport CEO Chellie Cameron said. “Our 2018 numbers show how the team’s efforts produced real results. We are encouraged by the upswing in passengers, operations and cargo handling and are eager to maintain this positive trend.”
Takeoffs and landings increased 2.6 percent to 379,665.
Cargo increased 20 percent to 555,327 tons, the first time since 2008 cargo tonnage surpassed 500,000.
