A recent small business study found that businesses believe that, within 20 years, business fleets will have gone fully electric.
The study conducted by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi determined that 66 percent of small businesses expect such a rapid changeover, while 50 percent are enthusiastic enough to believe that this will happen within 10 years. Coupled with the fact that 93 percent of business owners responsible for 50 vehicles or more indicated that environmental sustainability is of high importance, and increasing sales of electric vehicles, the future seems set to be increasingly green.
“These results show that the electrification of fleets is increasingly on the minds of our customers – not just for the financial efficiencies that EVs can deliver, but because environmental sustainability is clearly crucial to the future of their businesses,” Ashwani Gupta, senior vice president of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi LCV business, said. “I’m impressed at how optimistic these fleet managers are about the speed in which their vehicles will be fully electrified.”
It is not merely electric changes that are on companies minds, either. A majority 55 percent of small businesses also see fully autonomous fleets on their horizon in the next 20 years. Further, the more money a company makes, the more they seem to be falling into the camp of those who believe environmental sustainability is important, though there are concerns. Of companies surveyed, 18 percent believe that e-commerce and rising delivery demands will make for more logistical business challenges, and 17 percent indicated regulations and changing customer expectations for delivery times to be primary concerns.
