During the first two months of 2019, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will begin work on two major Phoenix-area road projects.

ADOT began work this month on the $10 million I-10 improvement project west of I-17. The project will construct an additional westbound lane between 35th and 43rd avenues and will improve to ramps and signals at cross street-level pedestrian crosswalks along I-10.

The project is expected to be completed by fall.

In February, construction will begin on the $185 million widening of Loop 101 in north Phoenix between Interstate 17 and Pima Road in north Scottsdale.

The project will add new lanes in each direction as well as new merge lanes. On- and off-ramps and noise and retaining walls will be reconstructed.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2020.

Other projects underway this year include the $50 million I-17 interchange reconstruction project at Happy Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads. The project began in November and will remove the roundabouts on Happy Valley Road, replacing them with a diamond design that will carry the road over I-17.

This spring work will begin on the $21 million construction of an interchange midway between the interchanges at Avondale Boulevard and Dysart Road.
