Thirteen national and regional organizations recently announced their support of the Alliance to Save Energy’s 50×50 Commission on U.S. Transportation Sector Efficiency, which will seek to identify strategies that will reduce energy use in U.S. transportation.

The commission includes representatives from local governments, environmental and consumer groups, vehicle manufacturers, technology companies, unions, and utilities.

A September commission report urged policymakers to embrace new technologies to meet future mobility needs and to reduce energy use in transportation 50 percent by 2050.

“The commission brings together leaders from across the nation who have the solutions for reimagining our transportation network so it uses significantly less energy,” Jason Hartke, Alliance to Save Energy president, said. “Now we’re building even wider support from groups around the country who will be playing important supporting roles in our outreach to federal, state, and local policymakers as we make the case for our recommendations. These groups will not only raise awareness for the commission but help engage policymakers across the country.”

The 13 organizations include the Alliance for Transportation Electrification, the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, the Center for Sustainable Energy, Plug In America, and Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance.
