The city of Denver recently launched an on-demand shuttle service for people commuting in and around the Capitol Hill, Civic Center and Cherry Creek neighborhoods.

The six-month pilot service will offer free shuttle rides. The shuttle, which can hold up to 14 riders, operates on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Seats must be reserved using the Chariot app and selecting City Shuttle.

Chariot, a shuttle services business owned by Ford Smart Mobility, operates the shuttles. One shuttle has handicap accessibility.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chariot to the area and are proud to be working with our partners to introduce this much-needed ‘microtransit’ service,” Julie Underdahl, president and CEO of the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District, said. “Within Cherry Creek North there are thousands of retail and service workers and Chariot will help get them to their places of work. The connection to the surrounding neighborhoods and Cherry Creek North is vitally important to our community.”

In Cherry Creek, residents have an average income of about $30,000 annually, and approximately 12,000 people work in the retail, hospitality and service industries, according to a Transportation Solutions survey.

The shuttle service is part of the city’s Mobility Action Plan, designed to use technology to make transportation easier.
