Steve Brown, COO of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), was recently elected to the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics (RTCA) board of directors.
RTCA is a public-private partnership venue that works with the Federal Aviation Administration to develop standards on aviation system matters. It also works with the Department of Transportation.
Its board is a mix of representatives from nonprofit organizations and the private sector. It is responsible for the organization’s oversight and management.
“With efforts to modernize the aviation system becoming ever more global, we believe that RTCA can play a key role in developing new international standards that will enhance the safety and efficiency of the worldwide aviation system,” Brown said. “RTCA has the expertise and provides the respected single industry voice to work on international aviation standards that will benefit the entire aviation community.”
Brown said there are many government agencies whose work overlaps with those of the aviation industry and this might be a way to grow RTCA. They include the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense.
Brown replaces NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen on the board. Bolen’s term expired July 31.
RTCA currently has more than 660 member organizations, which employ tens of thousands of people worldwide in the aviation industry.
