The Resurface PA initiative aims to repave interstates and patch potholes across 40,000 miles of roads maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

This year, $7 million will be invested in seven interstate maintenance projects on 78 miles of roads.

Additional investments include $62 million more for interstate preservation projects, $60 million more from interstate-project bid savings to be used for resurfacing, and $30 million more in transportation infrastructure investment funding for interstate improvements.

“PennDOT has made great strides with this aggressive campaign to accelerate repaving work on interstates and attack potholes across Pennsylvania,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. “In addition to accelerating the work, Resurface PA extends our reach to roads and highways throughout the state that we would not have been able to reach in a regular maintenance year.”

A total of 17 interstate projects will begin at least two years ahead of schedule. These projects will begin this or next year.

In 2018, 85 interstate projects are underway or expected to either begin or finish.

These projects will preserve the pavement for at least five or six years.

Between January and the beginning of August, more than 1,800 miles of roads were improved and 109,007 tons of patching material was used.
