The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recently announced Northern Kentucky has been awarded $75 million in infrastructure grants.
“This $75 million investment in this key infrastructure in Northern Kentucky will increase economic development, improve the quality of life and help create jobs for the hard-working people of this region,” Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao said.
A $67.45 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant will be used to support a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet project. The project will replace conventional diamond interchanges at the I-71/I-75 Interchanges south of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport with double crossover diamond interchanges.
In addition, construction of approximately two miles of northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes along I-71/I-75 north of the KY 536 interchange will reduce peak travel times along the congested freight and commuter corridor. Funds will complete a new single-point urban interchange at US 25, construct a railroad bridge overpass and two existing at-grade railroad crossings.
A $7.1 million Airport Improvement Program will be used at the airport to improve the baggage handling system at Concourse A, rehabilitate of the apron at Concourse A, and construct a de-icing pad and facilities.
Chao made the announcement in Boone County. She was joined by U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore and Kentucky Secretary of Transportation Greg Thomas.
