NTSB swears in new board member

Jennifer Homendy

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently swore in Jennifer Homendy as a member of the safety board.

The board had been operating with four members between April 2014 and December 2017 and with three members from January 2018 to Aug. 7. Homendy ‘s appointment brings the board to full strength with five members.

“It is my privilege to join this team of professionals who are dedicated to transportation safety, and I look forward to the challenging and rewarding work that awaits me,” Homendy said.

The NTSB welcomes Homendy’s wealth of experience, Board Chairman Robert Sumwalt said.

Homendy is certified by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications on Core HazMat Operations and Missions-Specific PPE and Product Control.

She previously served as the Democratic Staff Director of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. She led several committee oversight investigations as well as the multimodal review of the Department of Transportation’s drug and alcohol testing program.

The subcommittee is under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Homendy also held positions with the American Iron and Steel Institute, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the National Federation of Independent Business, and the Transportation Trades Department of the AFL-CIO.
