In an effort to improve service and meet travelers’ needs on their Midwest Network, Amtrak has worked through the summer to introduce several changes in time for back-to-school and the fall travel season.
Amtrak has adjusted scheduling to and from Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri, increasing the number of daily trips and working to carve into layover times. Amtrak has also sought to make train travel appeal more to students, by offering a 15 percent student discount.
At the same time, the service continues to modernize. A fourth Illinois corridor train now allows travelers to bring their pets along for the ride, while a third Michigan corridor allows bikes as well. The bike expansion, in particular, will also soon extend to Indiana-based trains. Such services and other efforts are clearly having an effect, given that the Amtrak Midwest Network has transported more than 3 million passengers over the last year, representing a 4 percent increase over the previous year.
Amtrak Midwest is a partnership of regional intercity service, organized between Amtrak and the Illinois Department of Transportation, Michigan Department of Transportation, Missouri Department of Transportation and Wisconsin Department of Transportation
