Enterprise CarShare is helping to reduce traffic congestion on the campus of Princeton University, officials said, and the popularity of their partnership is rising yearly.

Owned and operated by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, CarShare offers students, faculty, and staff at Princeton — and eight other campuses — 24/7 access to shared vehicles. In Princeton’s case, this was coupled with an effort beginning in 2016 that saw most undergraduate students restricted from parking on campus during the school year. Automatic enrollment in the program has been provided along with other incentives to faculty.

“CarShare is a huge piece of our programming and becoming more popular every year because fewer students are bringing cars to Princeton,” Kim Jackson, director of Transportation and Parking Services at Princeton, said. “It has enabled the university to commit to our sustainability objectives by reducing the number of vehicles coming on campus.”

Transportation & Parking Services at Princeton report that the partnership has tripled in size since it began and now provides 17 vehicles at any time across the 500 acres of the university campus.
