BNSF Railway, in partnership with Patriot Rail and the Utah Inland Port Authority, announced the opening of its new intermodal facility in Salt Lake City, Utah
During an official opening attended by Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, legislative leaders and public-private partners, the railway celebrated with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
“This new facility is an exciting opportunity to improve our capacity and efficiency as the industry’s intermodal leader, providing more flexible, competitive options for our customers,” BNSF Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Tom Williams said. “We are grateful for Patriot Rail and UIPA’s partnership, as this new facility will strengthen our supply chains from the West Coast to Utah and beyond.”
The new facility is located five miles from Salt Lake City International Airport and will be used in conjunction with the railway’s new intermodal service between Salt Lake city and California. The service operates in close coordination with Patriot Rail, which will provide support for the facility’s infrastructure and operations.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to smart, scalable infrastructure,” Patriot Rail CEO Brandy Christian said. “By working together with BNSF and UIPA, we’ve delivered a project that not only meets the demands of today’s economy but also positions Utah for long-term success in the global logistics arena.”
Officials said the new facility is part of the railway’s vision for a more connected, sustainable, cost-efficient and resilient future for the country’s supply chain.
