The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) recently extended their collaboration in the hopes of facilitating international trade, specifically e-commerce.
The partners will focus on enabling ASYCUDAWorld, UNCTAD’s automated customs management system for processing air cargo shipments, to manage e-commerce shipments more efficiently.
This includes facilitating access to the IATA enhanced partner identification and connectivity platform and adding a risk assessment for mail shipments. Once completed, customs authorities will have the ability to share advance cargo/mail information requirements across the digitized supply chain.
Global standards promote stronger compliance and contribute to a safe supply chain, IATA said.
The partners will also potentially include exchanging additional operational electronic information such as flight schedules, air cargo rules, and other information that can assist customs officials in their risk assessments.
“Through this extended partnership, we look forward to leveraging the leadership of UNCTAD and IATA in their respective fields to boost e-commerce in developing countries through improved exchanges of trade data,” Shamika N. Sirimanne, UNCTAD technology and logistics director, said.
The partners previously integrated air cargo messaging standards into ASYCUDAWorld.
One hundred counties have deployed the latest version of ASYCUDAWorld.
