The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) unveiled a new app for iPad users that allows them to search airport maps, services, and contact information for approximately 50 public-use airports and 150 privately-owned airports in Nevada.
“State airports move visitors, goods, firefighters and sometimes even medical services across Nevada. They’re a basecamp for pilots and visitors to explore Nevada,” NDOT Aviation Manager Kurt Haukohl said. “General aviation is a vital part of our transportation network, helping keep Nevada safe and connected. Aviation aids statewide tourism and economic activity.”
The app, currently available only on iPad, can be found under the name “Nevada Airport Directory.” NDOT expects to soon have the app available for on Android and smartphone devices.
The app was created by NDOT information technology staff, with the information updated monthly with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and NDOT data.
The NDOT is one of the first state departments of transportation to offer such an aviation app. It will not only be more convenient for users, it will save the NDOT thousands of dollars spent annually to print Nevada aviation maps and airport directories. The goal is to support Nevada economic development and aviation tourism, connectivity, and safety. Aviation in the state generates $1 billion in economic activity annually. Nevada is the fifth-most-visited state for foreign travelers.
