Three cement and concrete organizations recently launched a free pavement design tool called PavementDesigner.org.
The tool is designed for city, county, and consultant engineers as well as anyone involved in the design of roadways and parking area pavements. It is also available to academia or those in the pavement industry.
Features include the option of creating a user ID and password to save design work and that the website automatically updates when new content or details are added, meaning users do not have to download updated software or patches.
The system allows for the design of three project types – parking area, street, or intermodal facility.
“PavementDesigner.org represents a dramatic shift in solutions availability to designers of streets, roads, parking lots, and industrial facilities,” Eric Ferrebee, an engineer in training for the American Concrete Pavement Association’s Director of Technical Services, said. “By bringing multiple programs together in one package and eliminating the cost and time to download software, updates, and patches, we have removed barriers and enabled designers to select the best option for pavement designs.”
The organizations involved are the American Concrete Pavement Association, the Portland Cement Association, and the Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) Research & Education Foundation. The RCC Pavement Council provided support and additional funding.
