Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-IN) recently appointed Monica Newhouse-Rodriguez and Michael Browning to the seven-member Ports of Indiana Commission for respective four-year terms.
In their new roles, both Newhouse-Rodriguez and Browning will work to approve the organization’s major projects, budgets, and strategic objectives.
“It is an honor to have two business professionals with such distinguished careers and extensive experience in transportation planning and industrial development join the Ports of Indiana team,” Ports of Indiana CEO Rich Cooper said. “Our organization is dedicated to growing Indiana’s economy by developing world-class ports with a sustainable business model that does not require state funding to subsidize operations.”
Browning currently serves as chairman of the board for Browning Investments, currently the largest developer of industrial distribution facilities in central Indiana. Browning formerly served as the company’s president and CEO from 1981 to 2013.
Browning also serves as a board member of the Duke Energy Corporation and the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate organization of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. In previous roles, he has served on the boards of Conseco, Inc., Emmis Broadcasting, Inc., the Seattle Mariners, and the Indiana National Bank.
Browning holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame as well as honorary doctorate degrees from Marian University and Martin University.
Newhouse-Rodriguez serves as the managing principal of Newhouse and Associates, a consulting firm that focuses on airport planning, capital management, and development services. She also currently manages transportation and planning issues for the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, and the Miami International Airport.
In previous roles, Newhouse-Rodriguez worked with a number of large airports including the Sacramento County Airport System, the Houston Airport System, O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, and the San Diego International Airport.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Middle Tennessee State University and an MBA in information decision sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
