U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently approved Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)’s application for the Reimbursable Services Program.
The program allows airports to be reimbursed for hiring more CBP personnel.
CVG is one of the fastest-growing cargo airports in North America and the first to be certified by the Department of Homeland Security under the SAFETY Act.
CVG will also be receiving a $1.4 billion investment from Amazon, making it a worldwide air cargo hub for the company.
The funds and admittance into the program will allow CVG to expand operations and add more jobs.
“Gaining Reimbursable Fee Program status will help CVG enhance its air cargo operations,” Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said. “I was pleased to work with CVG officials to help the airport secure this valuable status, which will lead to increased economic activity at the facility and provide an economic boost to Northern Kentucky and the region.”
McConnell contacted CBP on behalf of CVG and his constituents.
CBP approved 41 applications for the Reimbursable Services Program.
The program allows CBP to keep up with the increasing demand for the safety and security of cargo and passengers, CBP Acting Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said.
Since the program began in 2013, CBP has provided more than 274,000 additional processing hours and entered into agreements with 50 stakeholders.
