TSA ensures preparedness for summer travel volume

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has ensured the implementation and maintenance of airport safety measures in anticipation of record airline passengers this summer.

Travel peaks during June and July, and on the busiest days, the TSA will screen more than 2.5 million passengers. Compared to 2016, the TSA Airport Operations Center will add 2,000 more TSA officers and 50 more canine teams.

Automated screening lanes are also in use at five airports with more expected to open before the end of the year.

“It is well known that terrorists continue to focus on aviation, which is why TSA continues to focus on providing robust security screening,” TSA Acting Administrator Huban A. Gowadia said. “TSA takes many security measures, seen and unseen, while working closely with industry partners such as airlines and airports to enhance the traveling experience and ensure every passenger arrives to their destination safely.”

Passengers should expect delays and are encouraged to arrive two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.

The TSA also encourages travelers to prepare for security checks and abide by the liquids rule. Passengers with questions should call the TSA Cares helpline, or contact the TSA via Facebook Messenger or Twitter.

Passengers also have the option of applying for the TSA Pre✓ program, which help improve security and provide a more convenient travel experience by allowing for passengers to access expedited security lanes.
