The Association of Global Automakers has named Steve Gehring as vice president of Vehicle Safety and Connected Automation.
In the newly created position, Gehring will be in charge of efforts to influence policies on self-driving vehicles, connected vehicles and auto safety.
The position was created because the auto industry is undergoing technological change.
“This was the right time in my career to begin working with the broader industry to advance some of the most cutting-edge lifesaving technologies,” Gehring said. “I am excited to join an organization that represents leaders in automobile technology, safety and manufacturing.”
Gehring has more than 25 years of experience in auto safety. He has worked with transportation companies and automakers, most recently serving as director of Public Policy for Vehicle Safety at General Motors.
Earlier this month, the Association of Global Automakers announced the naming of Lauren O’Toole Boland as communications manager.
Boland will handle association communications across numerous channels.
Boland has a background in political communications. She previously worked as communications director for congressional campaigns races throughout Ohio and as communications director for two members of Congress.
Her experience includes transportation and budget issues.
The Association of Global Automakers works with regulators and legislators to create public policy regarding vehicle safety and technology.
