The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s commercial airports were the second busiest in the agency’s history by passenger volumes during the first quarter of the year. The agency operates three major airports: LaGuardia Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.

The airports had 31.9 million passengers. The record of 32.3 million passengers was set during the first quarter of 2024.

March’s passenger volume decreased 3 percent from March 2024, reaching 11.6 million passengers. This has been attributed to the Easter 2025 holiday travel weekend occurring during the second quarter this year and a greater number of severe weather events.

The agency’s PATH commuter rail system served 13.4 million passengers during the first quarter, 5.7 percent more than in 2024, and 70 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 levels.

The PATH system served 5 million passengers in March. This is more than 10 percent more than March 2024, and 74 percent of pre-pandemic levels.

The Port of New York and New Jersey was the busiest port in the United States in March, handling 516,757 loaded 20-foot equivalent units, a 9.7 percent increase from March 2024.

Only the agency’s bridges and tunnels saw a decrease during the first quarter, dropping 2.4 percent compared to 2024.
