Austin Transit Partnership will update the community and other stakeholders about the progress being made on Austin Light Rail through a series of meeting, the government corporation announced recently.
The ATP, the government corporation in charge of implementing a light rail system for the area, will provide updates to the progress on the system during the meetings, officials said. The nearly 10-mile, all-electric system is being designed to give Austin resident a light rail system that will run reliably every five to 10 minutes and connect people to job centers, education hubs and other destinations in and around Austin. Officials said the system will be integrated with bike lanes, bus routes, urban trails, sidewalks, and park-and-ride areas.
The meetings will be open to the public and allow attendees to ask questions about the project’s progress, speak with staff members and review project updates and analysis. In January, the meetings will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 and on Wednesday, Jan. 22; from 2;30 to 5:30 on Saturday, Jan. 25; and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The meetings will share updates on the project and key recommendations, including creating an urban greenway along East Riverside, elevating the Waterfront Station and extending the light rail bridge, refining East Riverside station locations, and adding a new downtown station at Wooldridge Square.
“ATP has made significant design progress on Austin Light Rail, which will transform how we move around our city as well as bring thousands of jobs to Texas,” ATP Executive Director Greg Canally said. “Our goal in these meetings is to highlight where we are with our work as we move closer to construction. We’re excited to offer another opportunity for the community to ask questions and provide input that will continue to inform our work.”
