Indiana Gov. Eric J. Holcomb and representatives from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently gathered in Petersburg at the Pike County Courthouse to celebrate nearly $140 million in Community Crossings grants that were awarded to 223 communities statewide.
The program provides state matching funds for local road improvement projects.
“This program has impacted communities in all 92 Indiana counties, most more than once,” INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith said. “I want to recognize all of the local agencies who have participated over time for their hard work and dedication to improving their local transportation networks.”
Community Crossings is a component of Holcomb’s Next Level Roads program. He signed House Enrolled Act 1002, which identified long-term funding for Community Crossings, into law in 2017.
“Community Crossings has been an annual highlight over the years,” Holcomb said. “The fact that nearly 14,000 miles of road and over 200 local bridges have been replaced or rehabilitated through this program since 2017 is simply astonishing, in addition to countless economic and quality of life benefits in hundreds of communities across Indiana.”
Representatives from cities, towns, and counties throughout southwest Indiana receiving matching grants also attended the event.
The next application period will open in January.
