Senate Committee Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chairman John Thune (R-SD) and Ranking Member Bill Nelson (D-FL) recently criticized the fact United Airlines and Chicago O’Hare Airport failed to meet the committee’s deadline for providing information concerning the forcible removal of David Dao from United Flight 3411 on April 9.
Thune and Nelson were joined in the statement by Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA). The original deadline for the airport and airline report was April 20.
“We’re disappointed that neither United Airlines nor the Chicago Department of Aviation has yet provided substantive answers to the straightforward questions we asked about the forcible removal of a passenger on April 9, 2017,” the senators said. “Getting answers for the public about what happened and what can be done to prevent such an incident from happening again is a priority for the members of our committee. We find any further delay in getting necessary answers unacceptable.”
After acknowledging that it could not meet the committee deadline, The Chicago Department of Aviation and United Airlines committed to provide a full response no later than April 26 and 27, respectively.
