U.S. Reps. Sharice Davids (D-KS) and Dusty Johnson (R-SD) recently created the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus.

The caucus will work to reduce the aviation industry’s environmental impact and maximize its financial sustainability. It will assess the policies, processes, and resources needed to further environmental gains, enhance fuel supply resiliency, and strengthen national security. It will provide a forum to stay informed on initiatives.

Davids and Johnsons plan to hold frequent briefings on advancements in energy, aerospace, technology, and modal shifts; on implementing existing technologies into domestic and international aviation; and on future challenges and opportunities that await sustainable aviation, such as fuel production, workforce, regulatory structures.

Briefings will include insights on current efforts to form an environmentally and economically sustainable aviation future from local, state, and federal government stakeholders, and industry and nonprofit stakeholders.

The new caucus has the support of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).

“General aviation is steadfast in our commitment to mitigate the industry’s impact on the environment through technological and operational improvements as well as the use of sustainable aviation fuel,” Paul Feldman, GAMA vice president of government affairs, said.
“These sustainability commitments will be furthered through strong support and partnerships with government and other stakeholders like the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus.”
