The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently released program details for Round 1B of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) funding opportunity.
PennDOT will receive and distribute $171.5 million in federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law formula funds for EV charging infrastructure over five years. Approximately $12 million will be available during Round 1B funding, and 14 corridor groups are eligible for funding.
Round 1B focuses on closing any gaps along the state’s more than 1,800 miles of Alternative Fuel Corridors for electric vehicle charging following Round 1 and 1A.
“We’re making electric vehicle infrastructure more accessible to Pennsylvanians,” Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll said. “With federal dollars provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Pennsylvania is continuing its progress to build out the EV charger network along the state’s alternative fuel corridors.”
Pennsylvania’s NEVI program reimburses applicants who are required to provide a 20 percent minimum match.
The proposal period will open on May 13. Proposals must be submitted electronically by July 10. Funding will be awarded on a competitive basis to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain EV charging infrastructure statewide.
Federal NEVI formula funds are required to be used on Alternative Fuel Corridors with no more than 50 miles between stations and less than 1 mile from an exit.
