DHL Supply Chain, a contract logistics company, plans to invest $200 million to expanding its life sciences and healthcare capabilities.

“Resilient life sciences and healthcare supply chains are critical to the well-being of communities around the world,” Jim Saponaro, DHL Supply Chain president of Life Sciences and Healthcare, said. “This significant investment reflects our commitment to providing the industry with the reliable, efficient, and temperature-controlled logistics solutions that’s needed to deliver life-saving treatments and products to patients in need.”

The company has 35 warehouse facilities dedicated to serving its life sciences customers. The investment will expand the company’s warehouse facilities footprint by more than 13 million square feet.

By the end of the year, the company will have 40 warehouses with new facilities being built in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The locations were selected to help the company better serve the healthcare industry.

In North Carolina, the facilities will cater to the growing demand for life sciences logistics in the southeast region.

In Pennsylvania, the facilities will be within close proximity to major pharmaceutical hubs and research institutions.

The company also is investing in warehouse technologies. These include automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots, dynamic slotting tools for inventory deployment, and dedicated cold-chain solutions.
