The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in partnership with the U.S. DOT Volpe Center, recently launched a virtual thought-leadership program.
Up, Up, and Away: Innovations in Advanced Air Mobility will hold its kickoff event today at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, moderated by U.S. DOT Volpe Center Director Anne Aylward.
The seven-part event series will run through February and will consider how to embrace new technology while ensuring that the aviation system is equitable, more efficient, safer, and sustainable.
Each part will feature federal and private sector panelists. Featured speakers include Dr. Robert Hampshire, U.S. U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) deputy assistant secretary for research and technology and chief science officer; Elan Head, The Air Current senior editor; Carlos Monje, U.S. DOT under secretary of transportation for policy; Katie Thomson, FAA deputy administrator; and Laurence Wildgoose, FAA assistant administrator for policy, international affairs, and environment.
“A new era of aviation is taking off,” Monje said. “Drones, advanced air mobility aircraft, and other kinds of innovations have the potential to help us tackle some of our most difficult challenges and achieve major breakthroughs that will lead us to a new aviation system ecosystem.”
The program is open to the public. Registration is required.
