Recently, Walmart announced it was teaming up with Wing, an on-demand drone delivery provider, to make drone delivery in the United States a reality.

The two companies will offer drone delivery from two stores in the Dallas metro area, Walmart said in a statement, which will allow the megaretailer to reach an additional 60,000 homes. Already, over the past two years, Walmart has been able to provide drone delivery to customers of 36 stores in seven states. Walmart said it has completed more than 10,000 safe deliveries.

Walmart said working with Wing would align with its passion for “finding innovative and eco-friendly last mile delivery solutions to get customers the items they want, when they want them.” The partnership will allow drones to deliver to customers living within an estimated 6-mile range of the stores offering the service.

The service will be available at one of the Walmart Supercenters in Frisco, Texas. That store will join an existing network of 11 drone hubs in the Dallas area.

“This is an exciting next step for our customers, as it provides even more access to a convenient, innovative and – most importantly – super speedy way to get the items they need. The outlook is clear for drone delivery: The sky really is the limit,” Walmart said.
