U.S. airlines are providing disaster response and relief to the island of Maui in the wake of fires there.
Between August 10–14, airlines provided more than 150 relief flights to help transport survivors off the island.
In addition, Airlines for America members have offered increased flexibility for travelers whose air travel plans were impacted by the fires.
Some ways airlines have been aiding response and relief efforts include:
American Airlines operated 21 flights from Kahului on Maui to evacuate more than 4,200 customers from the island. It also added additional flights on larger aircraft to provide more seats for people leaving Maui. The airline also is working with charities to provide supplies.
Hawaiian Airlines added additional flights from Kahului to Honolulu and has transported more than 12,500 people off Maui. The airline also is carrying essential cargo as well as donating and shipping soft goods and catering items for evacuees arriving at Kahului Airport. It also is working with food banks.
Southwest Airlines added daily service across the Pacific and within Hawaii to help move people and pets and to provide critical supplies. It also is providing a continual shuttle of first responders. The airline also is supporting charities.
