UK-based Mondi, a multinational packaging and paper company with operations in the United States, and Swiss converter ATS-Tanner have partnered to create a paper band that can hold individually labeled products or bundles to reduce the use of plastic.

“By combining world-leading expertise in sustainable packaging with ATS-Tanner’s machinery and skills, we have together created a system that offers great product protection while reducing unnecessary plastic,” Carsten Breiter, Mondi International key account manager of Speciality Kraft Paper, says. “This is the perfect example of strong collaboration producing a new solution that does just that.”

ATS-Tanner used Mondi’s Kraft paper Advantage MF SpringPack and converted it into a band by adding a functional barrier on both sides of the paper. The paper is sealed using ultrasound, which eliminates the need for adhesive. ATS-Tanner markets the bands under the brand name TruePaper.

Mondi’s Kraft paper can hold weights of up to 44 pounds, giving it the required strength to substitute plastic packaging. It is manufactured using renewable, responsibly sourced, and certified materials and is recyclable.

TruePaper allows for printing and is ideal for fruit and vegetable bundles as well as multipacks of bottles and other consumer goods.

ATS-Tanner tried various paper grades before selecting Mondi’s.
